Archelaus (Sparta)
Archelaus ( Greek Ἀρχέλαος Archelaos ) is in Greek mythology, the eighth king of Sparta from the House of Agiaden . According to another tradition, which omits his predecessor Menelaus , he is the seventh king and the son of Agesilaus I.
Together with Charillos , the Spartan king from the house of the Eurypontids , Archelaus conquered the Periöken city of Aigys , located on the Arcadian border, and enslaved the inhabitants, because he suspected them of agreement with the Arcadians . After Eusebius of Caesarea he ruled for 60 years. Eusebius took this information from the history of Diodorus, which is only partially preserved today . Eusebius also claimed that Archelaus was from 885–826 BC. Ruled. Archelaus' successor was his son Teleklos .
