Agesipolis III.
Agesipolis III. (Greek Ἀγησίπολις; * around 230 BC; † around 183 BC) was the last Spartan king from the house of the Agiads . He was the son of Agesipolis , the eldest son of Cleombrotus II.
As Cleomenes III. 222 BC BC had to flee Sparta, the throne initially remained vacant. It was not until Cleomenes in 219 BC. BC died, new kings were installed. While Lycurgus was becoming the new king of the Eurypontids , Agesipolis, the son of Cleombrotus II, had already died. Therefore, his son Agesipolis entered the government of the Agiads. Since he was still a child, his uncle Cleomenes became his guardian. 215 BC Agesipolis was deposed and had to flee and Lykurgos seized the power of both royal houses. 195 BC Agesipolis was one of the Lacedaemonians in exile who supported the Romans under Titus Quinctius Flamininus in the fight against Nabis . Around 183 BC Agesipolis was sent to Rome together with Arkesilaos as the emissary of the Spartans living in exile . However, they were captured and killed by pirates.
