Agia Paraskevi ( Greek Αγία Παρασκευή ( f. Sg. )) Is a village in the south of the Greek island of Crete . It has the status of a local community in the municipality of Kourites in the municipality of Amari .

location

Agia Paraskevi is located in the southwest of the municipality of Kourites. Adjacent localities are Ano Meros in the north-west of the municipality of Syvritos , Agios Ioannis in the north and Apodoulou in the east and south-east . The village of Melapes of the municipality of Agios Vasilios borders in the south and south-west. The closest villages are Agios Ioannis two kilometers north and Apodoulou two kilometers east.

history

Since the Venetian rule , the village is known only from censuses. For the first time handed Francesco Barozzi 1577 the place name Sta Veneranda , 1583 was the name at Kastrofylakas S. Venaranda , and in 1630 in Francesco Basilicata S. Venaranda Sagudhi . During the Ottoman period, the village is mentioned as Aya Paraşki in 1650 and 1670 . Like the surrounding villages, at that time Agia Paraskevi was predominantly Muslim. According to Robert Pashley , Hagía Paraskevé was inhabited by 15 Christian Orthodox families in 1832.
