The Aginer Dazan ( Russian Агинский дацан) is the largest Buddhist shrine in the Transbaikalia region in Russia . It was founded in 1811 and is located in the village of Amitchasha seven kilometers southwest of the Buryat village of Aginskoye . As Dazan , it is both a monastery and a university. It was closed in 1938, and since 1993 it has once again been a teaching center for Buddhist philosophy and other sciences.
