Agnes Fay Morgan Research Award

The Agnes Fay Morgan Research Award was established in 1951 by the Iota Sigma Pi Honor Society for Women in Chemistry. The award is given to women under the age of 40 for research in the fields of chemistry or biochemistry .

The award is named after Agnes Fay Morgan (1884–1968). Agnes Fay Morgan was a biochemist and nutritionist born in Peoria , Illinois , USA . She studied at the University of Chicago and taught at the University of California . There she helped organize the housekeeping area in 1919 . As a co-founder of nutritional science, her work focused on the analysis of nutrients in food , the stability of vitamins and proteins during digestion, and the physiological effects of vitamin deficiencies on the human body. Her discovery of the role of pantothenic acid in adrenal functions and pigmentation was particularly noteworthy . Her work for the government and private clients included developing and improving food drainage.
