Jennifer S. Brodbelt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jennifer S. Brodbelt (* after 1960 ) is an American chemist who works in the field of mass spectrometry .

Life

Brodbelt studied chemistry at the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree in 1984. After completing her doctorate with a thesis on analytical chemistry with Robert Graham Cooks at Purdue University in 1988, she went as a postdoc at the University of California, Santa Barbara . In 1989 she moved to the University of Texas at Austin as Assistant Professor of Chemistry . In 1995 she became an Associate Professor and in 2000 a Full Professor.

Her field of work is the development and application of photodissociation mass spectrometry for the characterization of the structures and modifications of biomolecules, especially peptides , proteins , nucleic acids , oligosaccharides and lipids .

Brodbelt has received numerous awards and honors for her research. From 1993 to 1995 she was a Sloan Research Fellow . Also in 1993 she received the NSF Young Investigator Award. In 1995 she received the Agnes Fay Morgan Research Award . In 2017 she received the ANACHEM Award from the Association of Analytical Chemists. 2019 was of American Chemical Society with the Frank H. Field and Joe L. Franklin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mass Spectrometry honored.

From 2014 to 2016 she was President of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry.
