Agnes Ibbetson

Agnes Ibbetson , b. Thomson (* 1757 in London , † February 1823 in Exmouth ) was a British botanist .

Research activities

Agnes Ibbetson was born to Andrew Thomson. Her research was in the field of plant physiology and plant anatomy . Her main interests here were breathing, budding, fertilization and germination. She carried out microscopic examinations of pollen and air vessels and presented the results in more than 50 articles in Nicholson's Journal and Philosophical Magazine . The British Museum holds a manuscript by Agnes Ibbetson in which she explains that buds are endogenous . Several microscope slides and pieces of wood that she prepared herself are also housed there.
