Alexander von Budberg

Alexander von Boenninghausen called von Budberg (born April 7, 1717 on Neusorgen in Kurland ; † June 2, 1802 in Hamm ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the "Budberg on foot regiment" named after him .

Life

origin

Alexander came from the Budberg family (actually Bönninghausen), originally from Westphalia , who settled in Livonia in the 13th century . His parents were the Hessian Lieutenant Gotthard Ernst von Boenninghausen and his wife Sophie Elisabeth, nee Baroness von Taube from the home hostels.

Military career

Budberg occurred in 1735 in the Russian army , but took 1740 as an ensign his farewell and went into Prussian service . In 1740 he found himself in the battle of Mollwitz . In 1741 he became an ensign in the "Rampusch on foot regiment" and in the following year he became a second lieutenant . On September 17, 1743 he was transferred to the grenadier battalion "Ingersleben" as a first lieutenant . There he became a staff captain in 1753 and on January 30, 1756 he received his own company . During the Seven Years' War Budberg fought in the siege of Prague in 1757 and in the battles of Breslau , Leuthen and Hochkirch and the siege of Olomouc in 1758 . In 1760 he was taken prisoner near Glatz , but was freed again in 1761 and came to the "Dürringshofen" grenadier regiment. The regiment was formed from two grenadier companies each from the regiments "Hülsen zu Fuß" and "Kleist zu Fuß" . Budberg managed, however, that he was allowed to keep his old company. On December 25, 1761 he was promoted to major . In 1763 he was transferred to the "Grant on Foot Regiment" . There he became a lieutenant colonel and on June 2, 1773, colonel and regimental commander . In 1782 he received the former "Wolffersdorf walking regiment" and on May 24, 1782, he was promoted to major general . In 1789 he was promoted to lieutenant general and retired three years later.

In 1793 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle .

family

In 1748 he married Johanna Eleonore von Thielen in Magdeburg. The couple had several children including:

  • Louise (1770–1848) ⚭ Ludwig Anton Felix Count of Monts de Mazin (1765–1848), Prussian colonel
  • Sophie († 1811) ⚭ Johann Wilhelm Ludwig von Holtzbrinck (1763–1834) from the house of Rhade (Westphalia), lieutenant, later landowner
  • Daughter ⚭ NN of Löwenstern
  • Amalie Charlotte Karoline (1776–1829), head of the educational institution in Karlsruhe ⚭ August 25, 1800 Ludwig von Graimberg (1776–1820), professor in Karlsruhe and Mannheim, Badischer Legationrat
