content
The film is an encounter with the painter Agnes Martin (1912-2004), in which she talks about essential stations and aspects of her career and artistic work and her deep insights into fundamental themes of human existence such as love, friendship, happiness, religion and spirituality , Sharing death and creativity. In addition to interviews and recordings at work in the studio, images of selected paintings and quotations from the writings of Agnes Martin and archive material are shown.
Visual style and music
The interviews were recorded against a black background with natural light and only show the protagonist in close-up. In combination with a slow editing rhythm, abstract-looking recordings of the various phases of a sea surf and calm music, a meditative mood arises that is decisive for the style of the film.
background
The core of the material was produced in 2002 at the artist's place of residence and work in Taos, New Mexico, and a first cut version was performed shortly afterwards at various events, but not released on DVD.
