Agnes Schmidt (born October 14, 1875 in Gotha ; † November 21, 1952 there ) was a communist politician .

Life

Agnes Schmidt joined the SPD before 1900 and joined the USPD during the First World War , where she belonged to the left wing, which merged with the KPD to form the VKPD in late 1920 . In 1924 Agnes Schmidt was elected to the Thuringian state parliament, to which she belonged until 1927. In addition, she was temporarily responsible for the women's political work of the KPD in Thuringia.

As part of internal disputes within the KPD Agnes Schmidt belonged first to the "left" wing around Ruth Fischer and Arkadi Maslow , then from 1925 to the "ultra-left" wing around Iwan Katz and her party colleagues Otto Geithner and resigned after Geithner's expulsion from the party in March 1926 in protest against this measure from the KPD. Together with Geithner and the member of parliament Hans Schreyer , she founded the Communist Working Group (KAG), which received only 0.46% of the votes and no mandate in the 1927 state elections. After 1927 Agnes Schmidt withdrew from politics, her later fate is unknown.
