Agnomain
Agnomain is the name of a legendary figure from the Celtic mythology of Ireland . It occurs in the prehistory of Lebor Gabála Érenn ("The Book of the Lands of Ireland").
mythology
Agnomain belongs to the family of Feinius Farsaidh and is a prince of the Scythians . He kills his rival Reafloir in the fight for the leadership position, but his descendants refuse to recognize Agnomain as king and drive him out with his entire family. Agnomain is now equipping three ships and taking 20 female and 40 male warriors on board. He tried for seven years to find a passage into the ocean on the north shore of the Caspian Sea , then he died. Only his sons and grandchildren, the Goidelen , manage to continue the journey across the Maeotis swamps (Sea of Azov) and the Kerch Strait to the Pontus Euxinus (“Black Sea”) and the Mediterranean Sea . They are considered the ancestors of the sons of Míl Espane , the last and "Gaelic" wave of immigration to Ireland , who replace the Túatha Dé Danann as the ruling people.
According to another version of Lebor Gabála Érenn , Nemed is the son of Agnomain. Nemed sails from the Caspian Sea to Ireland with 44 ships to take it. It takes him a year and a half to reach his destination, but only his ship, on which his son or grandson Iarbonel is also, gets there. This is the third of the Irish invasions after Cessair and Partholón .
