Agra is an agricultural company in the south-west African state of Namibia . Until January 31, 2013, the company was registered as a cooperative under the name Agra Co-operative . Agra has been a public company since February 1, 2013.

In 2009, Agra had 4,549 members, down from 7,409 in 2008.

history

Agra has its origins in the Farmer's Co-operative Union (FCU), which was founded in 1946. The first seat was Cape Town in South Africa . The main task at that time was the marketing of Karakul . In 1949, the Boeresaamwerk Bpk, also based in South Africa . entry into the Namibian market. In 1975 these two unions merged under the name Boere Koöperatief Beperk (BKB) . On July 1, 1980, the first independent Namibian agricultural cooperative was founded under the name Agra from the BKB.

Conversion into commercial enterprise

Since the beginning of 2010, the transformation into a commercial enterprise has been advanced, which should be completed by July 31, 2010. Agra had thus lost the status of a cooperative. However, due to problems with deletion from the cooperative register, the conversion took a long time.

The conversion was completed on February 1, 2013. Members have been shareholders since then.
