history

The company was founded by the businessman Erwin Mächtel and the engineer Otto Göhler in Ruchsen near Möckmühl , but soon moved to a vacant site in Möckmühl.

Encouraged in particular by the needs of the farmers in the neighborhood, Agria gained a special reputation as a manufacturer of tiller, the production of which began in 1947. Known types of devices were in the 1950s and 1960s, the tiller Agriette or unicycle milling Agria baby also, commonly known herbs moped called with modified NSU Quickly Motor - NSU cc with a capacity of 49, 2.5 hp - Type 35 3-speed gearshift.

Also u. a. The single-axle series agria 2400 were equipped with NSU engines , which was replaced in 1982 by the successor model agria 3400, which is still produced today. In addition to tillers and single-axle machines , bar mowers such as the agria 2300 were an important pillar of the company and are still in production today.

In the course of its rapid success, the company was continuously expanded. In addition to the main factory in Möckmühl, other companies were established in Adelsheim and Jagsthausen, as well as in Spain, Italy and Greece at times until the 1970s.

For a short time Agria was also the manufacturer of a three- wheeled delivery scooter Triro , which competed with the three- wheeled light delivery vans Goliath and Tempo and, like the Goliath, advertised with a rear-wheel drive. The solid, very small truck could be ordered as a flatbed or box van, had a single-cylinder two-stroke engine with 250 cm³, 9 hp, and drove 50 km / h. This light commercial vehicle with a payload of 600 kg was built from 1950 to 1954. A total of around 500 pieces came onto the market. The flatbed truck cost up to 3,675 DM.

In 1979 Eggebrecht Viering joined the company as managing director and soon became a partner. In the first few years he led the company together with the company's founders Erwin Mächtel and Otto Göhler. During this time, among other things, the single-axle agria 3400, which is still sold today, was created and production was technically advanced with welding robots and laser cutting machines.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the changed market conditions required considerable changes in the company. Eggebrecht Viering took over the company shares from the families of the company founders, who have since died, and geared himself to the latest strategies of the automotive industry . The high level of vertical integration was significantly reduced in favor of regional suppliers and concentrated on the Möckmühl location. In the course of this restructuring process, new companies emerged, some of which are still important suppliers today, such as KKI, which was spun off in 1994. After the successful reorganization of new tech products as the hydrostatic emerged subsequently implement carrier agria 5900 with portal axle .
