Agristo NV is a Belgian manufacturer of food made from potatoes that are pre-baked and frozen ( frozen food ). The main product is french fries .

The company's headquarters are in Harelbeke- Hulste (West Flanders region), with additional production facilities in Nazareth (East Flanders) and in Tilburg, the Netherlands .

history

Agristo was founded in 1985 by Antoon Wallays and Luc Raes. Raes is President of the European Union of Potato Processors EUPPA , of which Agristo is a member. Production started in 1987 with 20,000 tons per year. In 2001 Agristo took over a factory in Tilburg, and in 2011 the long-term cooperation partner Willequet NV in Nazareth was taken over. In 2012, a new automatic deep-freeze warehouse with a capacity of more than 25,000 Euro pallets was built at the Tilburg location .

Products

Agristo produces around three quarters of private labels ( own brands ) for supermarkets, catering companies, fast food chains and the food processing industry. It exports to over 80 countries around the world, with the main markets being France and Great Britain. Own brands are Maestro, Mondy and International.

Today (2014) the processing capacity is up to 350,000 tons of potatoes, from which an average of 185,000 tons of end products are made in around 150 different variants. This corresponds to a market share of around a tenth of Belgian french fries production. Around half of the raw material comes from contract cultivation by around 300 Belgian farmers. The number of employees in 2009 was 150, the annual turnover was 110 million euros, after the takeover of Willequet the number of employees is 350, the turnover is 208 million euros.
