Agua Prieta is a city in the north of the Mexican state of Sonora with 77,254 inhabitants (as of 2010). history
The railway line between Douglas, Arizona and Nacozari ( Sonora ) drew many people to the city of Agua Prieta, founded in 1899. Its convenient location and proximity to the United States were one of the reasons why Agua Prieta was the scene of two battles during the Mexican Revolution in 1911 and 1915.
The "Plan of Agua Prieta" was a conspiracy of several generals in the north of the country under the leadership of Álvaro Obregón against President Venustiano Carranza , who was assassinated in May 1920.
