Aguas Corrientes is a city in Uruguay .

geography

It is located in the west of the Canelones department in sector 3 . It lies on the left bank of the Río Santa Lucía , which forms the border with the neighboring San José district. Aguas Corrientes borders on Santa Lucía, about a kilometer to the north . The department capital Canelones is located around seven kilometers east of the city.

history

The city got its name due to the fact that Montevideo's water supply takes place from here . The drinking water treatment began in 1870 with the construction of the plant, which went into operation on July 18, 1871. The workers involved in the project were also the first to settle on site with their families. The opening of Aguas Corrientes' first public school dates back to 1882. On November 26, 1923, the town was classified in the "Pueblo" category by the statutory regulation of Ley 7,651 . On October 19, 1971, Aguas Corrientes was made by the Ley 14,037 mansion .

Residents

The population of Aguas Corrientes was 1,047 at the last census in 2011. Of these, 511 residents were male and 536 female. For 2010, the Intendencia de Canelones had given a population of 2,180.
