The city of Santa Lucía, located on the river of the same name , is located in the department Canelones about 50 km northwest of the capital Montevideo .

The city was founded in 1782 under the name Villa San Juan Bautista . On June 15, 1925, Law No. 7,837 put them in the “Ciudad” category.
