Do not Bother Me ( english not disturb me ) is a song by British rock band The Beatles . It was released on November 22, 1963 on the album With The Beatles . It has a length of 2:25 minutes. It is the first piece written by George Harrison alone . He had previously written the instrumental piece Cry for a Shadow with John Lennon , which was recorded as a backing band for Tony Sheridan in 1961 . His joint composition In Spite of All the Danger with Paul McCartney from 1958 did not appear on Anthology 1 until 1995 .

Origin and admission

George Harrison composed the song when he was sick in a hotel bed in Bournemouth in August 1963 . The Beatles had a six-day engagement at the local Gaumont cinema from August 19 to 24, 1963. While Harrison said he was just trying to find out if he could compose the song, Bill Harry, editor of the music magazine Mersey Beat , said he had asked Harrison so often when he would finally write a song that Harrison would end up with Don 't Bother Me ( German :' Leave me alone ') as an answer.

An early demo recording of the piece appeared on various bootlegs after Alf Bicknell, who had worked as a chauffeur for the Beatles for several years, put tapes of unpublished material from his private collection up for sale. These tapes contain a sequence a little over five minutes with George Harrison working on Don't Bother Me .

The first studio recordings for Don't Bother Me took place on September 11, 1963 in London's Abbey Road Studios under the direction of George Martin . The sound engineer was Norman Smith . These first recordings were not satisfactory, however, so that the next day started again.
