The Ahlftener Flatt is north of Soltau befindlicher Heideweiher .

The pond, which was probably created by wind blowing, is framed in the north, west and east by coniferous and hardwood forests. There is a larger pasture in the south. It owes its name to the nearby Soltau district of Ahlften .

flora

Thanks to the sandy subsoil, the Flatt contains water that is poor in nutrients. Large populations of the common beak sedge ( Carex rostrate ) and narrow-leaved cotton grass ( Eriophorum angustifolium ) grow in it . In addition, there are a number of flutter rushes ( Juncus effusus ), which indicate the beginning of eutrophication. The pipe grass ( Molinia caerulea ) dominates further on the bank . In the west, a large heather area with several junipers ( Juniperus communis ) borders the pond. Moor lily thrive in muddy places (Narthecium ossifragum ), White Schnabelried ( Rhynchospora alba ), Bell heather ( Erica tetralix ), as well as Scheidiges Cottongrass ( Eriophorum vaginatum ).

Protection status

Although the Ahlftener Flatt is one of the few well-preserved heather ponds outside the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve, it has so far only had the status of a landscape and water protection area, which covers 40.12 hectares. In 2011 the Ahlftener Flatt was added to the list of natural wonders of the Lüneburg Heath.

On the northern bank, people bathe in the summer months, which means that the vegetation, which is sensitive to footsteps, is severely damaged in places. In the breeding season from March 15 to May 31, entry to the shore zone is prohibited. Dogs must always be kept on a leash.

Others

In 1935 he shot some outdoor shots for the feature film Fährmann Maria with Sybille Schmitz on the bank of the pond . Director was Frank Wysbar . The Flatt was issued as a river that is crossed by a ferry.
