Ahuachapán is a city in western El Salvador. It is the capital of the department of the same name .
Ahuachapán has a geothermal power plant and a hydropower plant . Due to the geothermal activity, there are many fumaroles in the mountains in the area .
Ahuachapán is the birthplace of the poet Alfredo Espino and is about an hour's drive from El Imposible National Park .
