Ai Xia
Ai Xia ( Chinese 艾 霞 , Pinyin Ài Xiá ; actually Yan Yinan ; born November 29, 1912 in Tianjin , Chinese Empire ; † February 15, 1934 in Shanghai , Republic of China ) was a Chinese actress.
Life
She worked for the Mingxing film company in Shanghai . In Zhang Shichuan's sound film Zhifen shichang ( The Tenderness Market ; 1933) she starred alongside Hu Die , and in the same year with Zhao Dan in Shi dai de er nü . She had one of her last appearances in Cheng Bugao's socially critical film Chun can ( Spring Silkworms , 1933). She starred in about seven films.
Ai Xia committed suicide by poisoning herself with raw opium at the age of 21 . Cai Chusheng's film Xin nü xing (1934) with Ruan Lingyu is based on her case .
