The Dolphins Arena ( Japanese ド ル フ ィ ン ズ ア リ ー ナ , English Dolphins Arena , Aichi Prefecture Sports Hall or Aichi Prefectural Sports Hall ) is a multi-purpose hall in the central district (Chūō) of Nagoya , the capital of the Japanese prefecture of Aichi . Every year in July it is the venue of the great Nagoya tournament in Sumo ( Hon-Basho ).
The arena is located near Nagoya Castle and can hold up to 8,000 visitors (4,375 seats; up to 3,265 standing). In 1966 the building won the Building Contractors Society Award, which is taking place for the seventh time. The hall is used for both sporting events and concerts; For example, the British world star Eric Clapton performed here in the context of his Reptile World Tour in 2001 in front of sold-out stands and the Grand Sumo Tournament was held here.
