The Aiguilles du Diable (German: Teufelsspitzen ) are five rock needles over 4000 meters above sea level on the southeast ridge (also Teufelsgrat ) of Mont Blanc du Tacul . The highest of the needles located in the French part of the Mont Blanc group is L'Isolée with a height of 4114 m . This is followed by Pointe Carmen ( 4109 m ), Pointe Médiane ( 4097 m ), Pointe Chaubert ( 4074 m ) and Corne du Diable ( 4064 m ), all of which are independent four-thousanders according to the UIAA classification.
The Pointe Carmen was climbed as the first needle in 1923 by Brégault, Chevalier and De Lépiney. The first ascent of the other needles followed in 1925, first the L'Isolée by Antoine Blanchet and Armand Charlet, then the Corne du Diable and Pointe Chaubert by Armand Charlet and Jean Chaubert. The last to climb the Pointe Médiane was Antoine Blanchet, Jean Chaubert, Armand Charlet and Devouassoud. For the first time, all points were climbed in one piece as a total crossing in 1927 by the Americans Miriam O'Brien and Robert Underhill with Armand Charlet.
Today, the crossing of the Aiguilles du Diable is largely a demanding rock tour, with little snow contact in summer with good conditions. In particular, the approach through a couloir to the Col du Diable before the start of the actual rock ridge and the onward path to Mont Blanc du Tacul still lead through combined terrain consisting of rock, snow and ice. The overall difficulties are rated as difficult (S +) and when climbing with V + .
