Life

Aileen Armitage grew up in Huddersfield , Yorkshire , where her paternal family had resided for over 400 years. The family seat was in Lindley Moor near Huddersfield. Her grandfather owned a mill in this area. After studying German at the University of Hull, she became a teacher, but had to give up the job due to deteriorating eyesight. After a divorce with four young children alone, she began to write at night with an extra thick felt-tip pen (highlighter); initially articles for magazines and short stories. Her first novel was immediately accepted by a publisher, and many more followed; z. Partly in the form of a saga that spans the centuries; this was inspired by her own family history. She writes under the names Ruth Fabian, Erica Lindley, Aileen Quigley and Aileen Armitage.

In 1988 the now almost blind writer was voted UK Woman of the Year. On November 21, 2002, she and her second husband, Deric Longden , also a writer, were awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Huddersfield .
