Aimery III. († shortly before 1000) was a Viscount of Thouars .

Life

Aimery III. was a son and successor to Viscount Herbert I von Thouars around 987 ; his mother's name was Aldéarde (or Hildegarde) d'Aunay. He was one of the most important vassals of Duke William IV of Aquitaine, who as William II was also Count of Poitou. Aimery III received from Duke Wilhelm. transferred important fiefdoms, such as the cella of Saint-Michel en l'Herm, which he donated to the Abbey of Saint-Florent de Saumur , which his liege had approved of.

However, the Viscount von Thouars was not only a vassal of the Aquitaine duke, but also of the Count of Anjou, Fulk III. Nerra who was very present in this part of the Poitou . Aimery III. Therefore, Aimery III. now held the powers of a Count of Nantes until 994. In 994 he became estranged from Fulko, who then had a fortress built in Passavant to keep the Viscount in check.
