Ainārs Kovals

Ainārs Kovals (born November 21, 1981 in Riga ) is a Latvian javelin thrower .

In 2005 he was seventh at the World Championships in Helsinki . The following year he achieved a personal record in qualifying at the European Athletics Championships in 2006 with 85.95 meters and fifth in the final with 81.65 meters.

In 2007 he failed to qualify at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka.

At the Olympic Games in 2008 he increased his personal best to 86.64 m and won the silver medal behind Andreas Thorkildsen (NOR) and in front of Tero Pitkämäki (FIN).

Ainārs Kovals is married to the javelin thrower Sinta Ozoliņa .
