The Airdrop Peak (freely translated: dropping peak ) is a mountain of 890 m height with a twin peak at the northern end of the Commonwealth Range . The mountain is the first visible elevation of the Ebony Ridge in the northwest.
The summit was the scene of an air mission in which on December 11, 1959 the crew of a Douglas DC-3 of the US Navy squadron VX-6 participants of the New Zealand Alpine Club Antarctic Expedition (1959-1960) came to the aid by a Discarded a replacement radio for a previously out of service. This event gave the mountain its name.
