The Commonwealth Range (German: Commonwealth chain ) is a mountain range around 144 kilometers in length in the Antarctic Queen Maud Mountains , which extends north-south along the eastern flank of the Beardmore Glacier from the Ross Ice Shelf to the confluence of the Keltie Glacier forms. The highest mountain in the chain is the Flat Top with a little over 4000 m . Other striking mountains are
- Mount Donaldson ( 3930 m ),
- Mount Macdonald ( 3630 m ),
- Mount Hermanson ( 3140 m ),
- Mount Deakin ( 2810 m ) and the
- Gray Peak ( 2570 m ).
The mountain range was discovered by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) led by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton . It is named after the Commonwealth of Australia to thank its government for supporting the expedition.
