AjaxSketch is a free vector-based graphics and drawing program that, like comparable applications based on Ajax technology, runs completely in the browser. The program can be used without installation.

Program history

The project was initiated by MP3.com founder Michael Robertson , who has already published AjaxWrite and wants to compete with Microsoft Office.

According to the press, another new application, such as a spreadsheet or presentation software, should gradually (every week) be released and made publicly available. AjaxSketch was the second application released after AjaxWrite .

requirements

For AjaxSketch you need Mozilla Firefox from version 1.5. The program then runs under Windows , Linux and Mac OS X . More browsers are to be supported gradually.

Range of functions

AjaxSketch opens and saves SVG files, which can then also be edited with other vector drawing programs such as Adobe Illustrator , Inkscape or Macromedia Freehand .

Many of the menu items are not yet active, what is already possible is the drawing of shapes, objects can be rotated, and the background and pen color as well as the opacity of the individual objects can be changed. A real vector drawing program is not yet available with AjaxSketch, this is also indicated by the version number. A release date for version 1.0 is not yet known.

AjaxWrite and other similar programs

In addition to the word processors AjaxWrite , Writeboard and Writely , a whole range of programs are currently going online that use Ajax technology . For example iRows and Num Sum , spreadsheets which, like Writely, are accessible online and work on a server basis.
