Aji Yam Secka

Aji Yam Secka ( Ajaratou Mariama (Yamu) Secka ; also: Mariama B. Secka ) is a Gambian politician.

Life

Aji Yam Secka is a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP). She became involved in many of the party's women's wing. Around 1998 and 2001, and by 2014 she was general secretary of the women's group ( Women Secretary General ). Around 2011/2012 and at the end of 2018 she was deputy head.

Around 2016 she was Deputy Secretary General. Since party leader Ousainou Darboe was temporarily imprisoned, she led the party during this time. Towards the end of Yahya Jammeh's reign , she was one of the leading figures in the protests against arbitrary detention and rights violations.

In addition to Halifa Sallah (PDOIS), Dembo Bojang (UDP) and Alhagie Darboe (UDP), she is said to have been one of the key people who laid down their common political goals in a memorandum and agreed in the Coalition in 2016 on the common candidate Adama Barrow , who later actually won the 2016 presidential election .
