Ajmer-Merwara was a district of British India in the Rajputana in what is now the state of Rajasthan . The area around the city of Ajmer was ceded to the British East India Company in 1818 by Daulatrao Sindhia (1779-1827), the Maharaja of Gwalior . Under British rule, the province was administered by a Chief Commissioner who also headed the Rajputana Agency .

On November 1, 1956, Ajmer-Merwara became part of the state of Rajasthan. In 1951 the province had an area of ​​6281 km² and 692,000 inhabitants.
