The Lake Akşehir is a lake between the Turkish provinces of Konya and Afyonkarahisar is located in Central Anatolia. The lake lies in a trench between the Sultan Dağı and Emir Dağı Mountains . The closest city is Akşehir . The length is 39 km and the width 20 km. The area is 353 km². The mean depth is 171 m. The height above sea level is 954 m.

As the lake is located in a closed catchment area, it has no outlets, which is why the water is slightly salty. Several streams flow into the lake, so the water near the shore is sweet. The middle and northeast of the water are all the salty. The lake draws its element from the Sultan Dağı, from whom the meltwater flows into the lake depending on the season. In addition, the lake feeds on aquifers and precipitation. The amount of water is regulated by evaporation and by what is extracted for irrigation of the agricultural areas.

The Akşehir Gölü used to be connected to the Eber Lake . After a controller has been installed on site and irrigation channels have been built, this connection is broken. During the past observation periods, the water volume has shown strong differences depending on the year and season. The lowest volume was recorded in November 1963 with 460 million m³ and the highest in May 1970 with 2.1 billion m³.

The flora and fauna of Akşehir Gölü show similarities with the boar Gölü. Although the level does not correspond to that of the boar Gölü, it is ecologically rich in food for the fauna. In addition to carp , six other fish species share this habitat. In the vicinity of Akşehir Gölü there are also several species of birds, especially in autumn and at the beginning of winter. Among other things, you can meet pelicans, seagulls, wild geese and ducks here. A total of 60,000–80,000 birds live in this environment.
