Academy of Sciences Agder

The Academy of Sciences Agder ( Norwegian Agder Vitenskapsakademi ( AVA ), English Agder Academy of Sciences and Letters ) is based in Kristiansand . It is one of the academies of science in Norway . The academy currently has around 200 members.

Its forerunner was the Agder akademi founded on October 27, 1962 on the initiative of Magnus Breilid and Halvor Vegard Hauge , of which Hauge was the first president. At the instigation of the academy, a university of its own was set up in southern Norway in 1969 , the Agder District University , from which the University of Agder later emerged.

After a long latency period, the academy was revived on October 27, 2002. Ernst Håkon Jahr was elected president and is still in office today. The Academy of Sciences in Agder initiates and promotes research in Agder , with the main focus on scientific activities with social relevance. The central publication organ is the Agder Vitenskapsakademi - Årsbok yearbook .
