The academy for digital media production , for a time the university for digital media production (also called the German Film School ), was a privately owned educational institution founded in November 1998.

history

On March 1st, 2000, she started teaching in Elstal , Brandenburg . In August 2003 it received state recognition as a university from the Brandenburg Ministry for Science, Research and Culture - initially limited to three years . From then on it was run as one of two art colleges in the state of Brandenburg under the name University for Digital Media Production . In September 2003 5 professors were appointed and 5 honorary professors were appointed. The university and its students received many national and international awards, most recently, as the fiftieth, the Best Institute Program Diploma 2007 at the VI. Open St. Petersburg Student Film Festival in October 2007.

By refusing to extend state recognition, the Academy lost its university status in September 2007 and, according to the legal opinion of the Ministry of Science, was no longer allowed to call itself a university for digital media production from that point on . Furthermore, it was no longer allowed to award the diploma , Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees , which may only be awarded by state or state-recognized universities.

On November 28, 2007, the academy filed for bankruptcy due to impending insolvency .

The students affected by the bankruptcy had the opportunity to continue their studies as digital artists at the Babelsberg Film School of the Mediadesign Hochschule Berlin and obtain the desired qualifications there.
