The Akademija Nauk ( Russian Акаде́мия Нау́к ) is a stratovolcano in the southern part of the Russian peninsula Kamchatka .

The caldera rim of the volcano, named after the Russian Academy of Sciences , reaches a maximum height of 1180 meters. At the end of the Pleistocene and around 30,000 years ago, the two calderas Odnoboki (5 × 4 km) and Akademija Nauk (3 × 5 km, filled by Lake Karymskoje ) were created.

The only historically known eruption occurred on January 2, 1996, when basaltic and rhyolite material with an estimated volume of 40 million cubic meters was ejected from craters near the north-northwest side of the caldera during an explosive eruption . Earlier eruptions in the area north of Lake Karymskoye were based on radiocarbon studies to about 950 BC. Chr., 3850 BC BC and 5500 ± 500 BC Dated BC, with the activities in the form of fissure eruptions and pyroclastic currents .
