The Akademisches Förderungswerk is a student union based in Bochum . The AKAFÖ supplied over 70,000 students and university employees in the cafeterias of the Ruhr-University Bochum , Bochum University , Protestant University of Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe , Institute of Technology Georg Agricola , College of Health and Westfälische Hochschule Gelsenkirchen Bocholt Recklinghausen . The AKAFÖ rents out over 4,200 places in the student halls of residence, is commissioned with the implementation of the BAföG, offers child care, foreigners, social and handicapped advice and much more.

The tasks of the AKAFÖ include:

  • Implementation of BAföG . As part of the study financing, the AkaFö is commissioned with the implementation of the BAföG, the brokerage of the DAKA-NRW graduation loans, and it is also a cooperation partner for the KfW student loan.
  • Construction and operation of living space. A total of 21 student residences and student housing complexes offer shelter for up to 4,200 students.
  • The AKAFÖ operates 10 canteens and 20 cafeterias.
  • Childcare. Two day-care centers relieve students and parents employed at universities in looking after their children. There are (in the KiTag) 60 children between four months and six years in four mixed-age groups of 15 children each. There are also 20 school children: They spend their free time in the day care center at KiTag and do their homework there. Since 2011 there has also been "UniKids", the day care center offers space for a total of 110 children between four months and six years.
  • Advice for the disabled. Another focus of the AKAFÖ is on advising and caring for the average 7200 disabled and chronically ill people at Bochum's universities. (Advice center for the inclusion of the disabled)
  • Cultural promotion. Through the "Bochum Student Cultural Operative" (boskop), the AKAFÖ offers a cultural range from concert series to special events and festivals or parties at Bochum universities.
  • Advice to foreigners. In order to provide economic and social support for foreign students, the AKAFÖ, together with the General Student Committee at the Ruhr-Uni, set up the advice center for foreign students, where they can be helped with problems and general questions.
  • International. The AKAFÖ is actively involved in the process of internationalization at universities. In addition to comprehensive on-site support for international students, the company also maintains external contacts and has been cooperating with university institutions from various countries for many years. We are currently cooperating with Poland, Russia, Tunisia and China.

history

The AKAFÖ was founded on February 9, 1965 as an academic support organization at the Ruhr University Bochum eV . In the same year, the first student residence is put into operation on Laerholzstrasse. In 1971, the large canteen on the campus of the Ruhr University in Bochum is one of the most modern large kitchens in Europe. In 1974, the NRW Student Union Act made its status as a registered association an institution under public law .
