Akarçay Tepe is an archaeological site east of the Euphrates in the immediate vicinity of the Syrian border near the village of Akarçay in the Birecik district of the Turkish province of Şanlıurfa , on the south bank of the Su Deresi brook, which flows into the Euphrates to the west. The place was in the 8th and 7th millennium BC. Settled. It was discovered in 1994 by Guillermo Algaze during field inspections and has been excavated since 1999.

The oldest construction phase consists of grill plan buildings , as they are also known from Nevalı Çori and Cayönü . In the following phase these disappeared in favor of the cell plan buildings also known from Nevalı Çori , which then remained in use until the end of the pre-ceramic Neolithic . A special feature is the walling of the settlement, which was built from 7,800 to around 6,000 BC. Must have passed.
