Akemi Niwa ( Japanese 丹羽 明 美 , Niwa Akemi ; born March 24, 1973 in Kitami , Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese curler .
Niwa made her international debut in 1993 at the World Curling Championships in Geneva , but she remained without a medal. In the same year she won her first precious metal with the gold medal at the Pacific Championships in Christchurch .
Niwa played as the skip of the Japanese team in the XVIII. Winter Olympics in Nagano in curling. The team around Skip Mayumi Ōkutsu finished fifth.
