Akira Toda

Akira Toda ( Japanese 戸 田 顕 , Toda Akira ; * 1951 in Aomori , Aomori Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese composer .

He completed his studies at the Kunitachi College of Music and graduated in 1975. This was followed by studies at the Graduate School of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music with a major in euphonium with Kiyoshi Oishi and conducting with David Howell (conductor) .

He is a professional euphonium player and conductor . He made his debut as a conductor in 1978 . He accompanied James Swearingen , Robert Sheldon and Frank Bencriscutto on tours in Japan . Since then he has also held workshops and band clinics in Japan and the USA. His works were nominated as compulsory pieces for the national wind orchestra competition in Japan.
