Akkalkot ( Marathi : अक्कलकोट , Akkalkoṭ ) is a place with about 40,000 inhabitants in the Indian state of Maharashtra .
It is located in the Solapur district , 40 km south of the district capital Solapur , on the border with the state of Karnataka .
Akkalkot was the capital of the former princely state of Akalkot .
