The Aktinia Beach (English; Bulgarian бряг Актиния brjag Aktinija ) is a largely non-icy , 2.7 km long and 400 m wide beach on the southwest coast of Snow Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It extends on both sides of Rebrovo Point . Its center point is 2.18 km northwest of Cape Conway and 3.4 km southeast of Monroe Point .
This area was already known to seal hunters in the early 19th century . Bulgarian scientists mapped the beach in 2009. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in 2018 after the Bulgarian trawler Aktinija , who operated from 1979 to 1980 under Captain Christo Haralambiew to fish in the waters around South Georgia and the South Orkney Islands .
