Action party for animal welfare - the original

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Action Party for Animal Welfare - ANIMAL PROTECTION here! is a small German party .

history

In 2017, previously non-party people came together to found a party. On February 28, 2017 they founded the small party "Action Party for Animal Welfare" in Düsseldorf with the (short name: Animal Welfare List) . The foundation was initiated by Thomas Schwarz and Jörg Balters. For the first time, the party took part in the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 . The State Association of Saxony-Anhalt and the State Association of North Rhine-Westphalia were founded from the end of 2017 to the beginning of 2018. A new federal board was elected on January 21, 2018. Thomas Schwarz from Neuss became federal chairman and Christine Bril from Lutherstadt Eisleben was deputy chairman . The general assembly voted on the occasion to participate in the 2019 European elections . Due to the many reactions after the last state election in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017, the members of the party said it made sense to change the party name. Since then, the abbreviation has been “ Animal protection here !” Instead of “Animal protection list”. The addition " the original " was added to the main name. The party states that this was done in order to better show that the party predominantly stands for animal welfare , the original concern. Since the beginning of 2020 - with a view to the upcoming local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia - the addition has been waived after a membership decision.

At the assembly meeting in Düsseldorf, the non-party councilor Claudia Krüger (member of the Düsseldorf city council ) was elected as the top candidate for the 2019 European elections. After the 4,000 necessary support signatures had been entered, the federal election committee approved the party. In 2019, two of Essen's city council members , who were elected for the now-dissolved pro NRW party, joined the party , which aroused sharp criticism.

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , the party received 59,747 votes and thus 0.7 percent of the second vote.

Relationship to the animal welfare party

According to its own information, the "Action Party for Animal Welfare - the Original" (short name: Animal Welfare here!) Is not a spin-off from the Animal Welfare Party . According to the presentation of the latter, however, the situation looks different. At the beginning of 2017, a power struggle raged in their North Rhine-Westphalian state association, in which Thomas Schwarz, at that time state chairman and general secretary of the federal party, played a key role. The state party conference in January of that year was held with the occurrence of several formal errors; the state list drawn up for the federal election and the decision not to participate in the state elections also caused criticism within the party. The federal executive also reprimanded the influence of Torsten Lemmer , the managing director of the council group in Düsseldorf, especially since he was not even a party member.

In the following month, the party congress was repeated and it was decided to run the state election. However, a short time later the founding of the Action Party for Animal Welfare was initiated, while members of the state board successfully prevented the Animal Welfare Party from taking part in said election. The then incumbent state executive was then completely removed by the federal party. In addition, the Animal Welfare Party has doubts that the newly founded party legally got the necessary support signatures in such a short time before the deadline. In addition, Schwarz had previously violated the decision that there was no longer any cooperation with Lemmer.

A complaint by the Animal Welfare Party against the approval of the "Action Party for Animal Welfare - the Original" with the objection of a possible risk of confusion was unanimously rejected by the Federal Electoral Committee with reference to the Political Parties Act.
