The DS Division Akurana is a Divisional Secretary Division ( DS Division, "subdistrict") in the District of Kandy in the Central Province in Sri Lanka . The main town is Akurana.

The DS Division Akurana is the smallest administrative unit in the Kandy district in terms of area. With 2,045 inhabitants per square kilometer, it is very heavily populated.

The last census in 2012 showed a population of 63,397 people. Of the residents, 29,940 (47.23%) were male and 33,457 (52.77%) were female.

The majority of the population belongs to the moors . They have 40,215 members (63.43%). The strongest minority are the Sinhalese with 18,861 people (29.75%). Other significant minorities are Tamils ​​of Indian origin (2,670 people; 4.21%) and the Sri Lankan Tamils ​​(1,482; 2.34%).

According to the distribution of the ethnic groups, the majority of the population is Muslim . The Muslims numbered 41,117 members, which corresponds to a share of 64.86%. In addition to the moors, the few Malays are also Muslim. The largest minority religion is Buddhism (18,739 people; 29.55%), to which the majority of the Sinhalese belong. In third place are the Hindus , to whom the majority of the two Tamil ethnic groups belong (3,211 people; 5.06%). Of the residents, only 330 are Christians (0.52%).
