Al-Biruni is an impact crater on the back of the Earth's moon with a mean diameter of around 80 kilometers.
description
Due to the libration of the moon, it is occasionally visible from the earth - but only from the side. Al-Biruni is located south of Joliot Crater and northeast of Goddard . The edge of Al-Biruni forms a non-even circle, with a bulge on the northeastern edge and a crater inner wall to the west. The inner floor is relatively flat, with a few small craters. The largest is Al-Biruni C , which is near the northeast wall.
Namesake
The moon crater is named after the Persian scholar al-Biruni (973-1048). It was named by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1970.
