al-Khāzin
ʿAlā 'ad-Dīn ʿAlī ibn Muhammad al-Chāzin ( Arabic علاء الدين علي بن محمد الخازن, DMG ʿAlāʾ ad-Dīn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Ḫāzin ; born in Baghdad in 1279 ; died on January 19, 1341 in Aleppo ) was a Shafiite Koran exegete from Baghdad. He received his first training at the Madrasa al-Mustansiriyya , later he went to Damascus, where he ran a library. There he also received his laqab al-Chāzin . His most famous work is his commentary on the Koran entitled Lubāb at-Taʾwīl fī Maʿānī at-Tanzīl , commonly known as Tafsīr al-Ḫāzin (تفسير الخازن). At an advanced age he settled in a village called Shīha near Aleppo. Hence his nisba "ash-Shihi" comes from.
