The al-Sulaibikhat Sporting Club ( Arabic نادي الصليبيخات الرياضي, DMG Nādī ṣ-Ṣulaibīḫāt ar-riyāḍī ) is a sports club from Sulaibikhat, a district of Kuwait City . The club's football division currently plays in the national second division and won championships there in the 1976/77, 2008/09 and 2011/12 seasons.

history

Soccer

Since the club was only founded on February 15, 1973, it is one of the youngest football clubs in the country. Overall, it was the 58th sports club in Kuwait. The club began its history in Division One, Kuwait's second division. In the 1976/77 season the championship title was celebrated for the first time, but the success after the promotion did not last long. With 7 points at the end of the season, after 14 days of play, he was 8th and last place. After a relegation game against al-Shabab , relegation had to be accepted again. Although the leagues were merged again and again in the later seasons, al-Sulaibikhat usually only ranked in the lower places. In the 1980/81 season, the club was either withdrawn or excluded from the game after the first half of the season. In the 2006/07 season the results were even completely canceled. At the end of the 2008/09 season, however, the championship and promotion could be celebrated again after many years. In the next season, the club went down again with only 6 points. The 2011/12 season saw the team's last championship title so far. Contrary to the last championships, the following season remained without relegation this time. With 19 points, the team was able to save itself to the penultimate place. By merging the leagues, al-Sulaibikhat stayed on top anyway and placed itself in the middle of the league. After the 2016/17 season, however, the second to last in the league went down again. The team still plays there today.

Handball

The club is also relatively successful in handball. In the years 2000 and 2007 (both in Kuwait City) and in 2005 in Amman, the second place in the Asian Club League Handball Championship was achieved. In 2009 the title was even won in Amman.
