The Al-Jahra Sporting Club ( Arabic نادي الجهراء الرياضي, DMG Nādī Ǧahrāʾ ar-riyāḍī ) is a Kuwaiti football club based in Al-Jahra City. The team was champion of the Kuwaiti Premier League predecessor Kuwaiti League in the 1990 season. Currently, after relegation in the 2018/19 season, they play in Kuwaiti Division One . In addition to football, the club also offers basketball, volleyball, boxing and fencing. In the latter sport, the club achieved both national and international successes, and Abdullah Abdulredah heads the department as a coach.

history

The club has played in the Kuwaiti Premier League since at least 1979 . The team was only able to celebrate the championship in 1990 for the first time and so far only. Before that, it went into the second division for the first time for one season in the 1987/88 season, but the club was able to rise again directly from there. In the Kuwait Emir Cup 1996 they reached the final, but had to admit defeat to al-Arabi . It went down again after the 2001/02 season , but the league was again left as champions in the following season . In the cup in 2002 the team at least reached the final, but lost here again, this time against al-Kuwait .

The club was last in the cup final in the 2013 season . There it was against al-Qadsia , a 3-0 defeat. The reduction of the league to just eight participants after the 2016/17 season was just about able to survive the club with seventh place in the end. After the 2017/18 season , the team was again only in seventh place. So you had to go into relegation, in which you secured relegation. In the following season they reached the same place again, but ultimately missed relegation. Thus, the club is currently playing for the third time in its history in the second-rate Division One.

Among other things, the team also took part in the 2003/04, 2004/05, 2005/06 and 2006/07 Alkhurafi Cup seasons, but could never survive the group stage.
