Al Svenningson

Allen R. "Al" Svenningson is an American basketball coach .

Life

 Svenningson from Winona in the US state of Minnesota attended Winona High School and then Winona State University. As a basketball player from Winona State, he achieved a point average of 23.5 per game in 68 appearances.

He coached the Wayne State College basketball team in Nebraska from 1959 to 1967 . During this time he led the team to 121 wins (with 73 defeats). After leaving Wayne State, he coached the University of Alaska Fairbanks basketball team from 1967 to 1985 . Under his leadership, the "Nanooks" won a total of 245 games.

In the game year 1989/1990 he temporarily coached the German Bundesliga team Steiner Bayreuth after Lester Habegger had to pass for health reasons. During this time, Svenningson contributed to Bayreuth's streak of 20 Bundesliga victories in a row.

In 1985 Svenningson was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Winona State University, in 2008 Wayne State College and in 2015 the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
