Alan Moorehead

Alan McCrae Moorehead (born July 22, 1910 in Melbourne , Australia , † September 29, 1983 in London ) was a British journalist and non-fiction author. Moorehead was best known as a foreign correspondent for the Daily Express and as an author of widely read travel reports and biographies.

Live and act

Moorehead grew up in Australia. After attending Scotch College and Melbourne University , which he left with a BA degree, he moved to Great Britain in 1937.

In the following years, Moorehead hired himself as a foreign correspondent for the English daily newspaper Daily Express . In addition to his reports for the Express, Moorehead also published biographies, essays and travelogues that made him one of the most widely read British authors of his time. During the Second World War he gained international renown for his reports from various theaters of war in the Middle East, Asia, the Mediterranean and from northwestern Europe.

Moorehead was married. The marriage resulted in a son and daughter Caroline Moorehead . In 1966, Moorehead suffered a stroke. An operation that followed damaged his nervous system and made him unable to speak and write.

Moorehead donated his estate to the National Library of Australia while still alive in 1971 .
