Albategnius is a large impact crater on the front of the moon east of the Mare Nubium . The crater is southeast of Ptolemaeus and south of Hipparchus . The crater wall is badly eroded and has terracing . The south-western edge is covered by the Klein crater . The inside is just with a central mountain .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Arab mathematician and astronomer al-Battani .
